Emerge Miami Celebrates a Successful Clean Up for it’s MLK Day of Service
Martin Luther King Day was unusually chilly for January in Miami, but folks from Emerge and student veterans from Florida International University kept warm with some heavy lifting. We all celebrated the yearly MLK Day of Service by collecting trash in Little Haiti, focusing on the blocks around our home at Sweat Records.
Our group of 15 volunteers spent the day filling bags, welcoming extra help from passers-by with things to toss, and comparing notes on some obscure findings such as engine parts, Santeria sacrifices, and a remarkably tall pile of juice boxes. We ran out of bags fast, and thankfully welcomed donated supplies from a local business. In the end, we tossed several dozen sacks of trash, and had clean fun getting dirty!
